About VAT Case Law

Practical access to European VAT case law

VAT Case Law brings European VAT case law together in a focused search and reading environment, with the official source always within reach.

Purpose

The website is intended for tax professionals, advisers, lawyers, researchers, students and anyone who needs to search European VAT case law. Where possible, case dossiers combine the decision, the Advocate General's Opinion and the available language versions.

Official sources

Documents and core metadata primarily come from Cellar and EUR-Lex, operated by the Publications Office of the European Union. Curia and InfoCuria provide additional dossier relationships, case status information and common names. Every case retains a link to its official source.

Source fidelity

Official XHTML and PDF documents are provided without alteration. If an official PDF is not yet available, VAT Case Law may generate a clearly identified PDF from the official XHTML for convenience. The official PDF takes precedence as soon as it becomes available.

Editorial content and technology

Official source information, technical derivations, and editorial or automatically generated commentary remain clearly separated. Future AI-generated commentary will be identified as such and will never replace the official document.

Independent

VAT Case Law is an independent initiative and is not part of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Publications Office, EUR-Lex, any national government or another European institution.
